Help with draining

I have a basically new pool (4 mo.) with a CLI aggregate finish. Shortly after the pool was done, some areas in the deep end around the drains began showing "thin" areas of aggregate. Anyway, the plaster contractor could not explain what was happening and advised me to drain the pool so they could diagnose and repair the areas in question. Neither he nor the general pool contractor said anything about hydrostatic floating of the pool when draining. Is this something I should be overly concerned about? I'm in Austin, TX, with very rocky soil. Thoughts?
