    Intelliflo Weather Resistance??

I've read in a few threads here about some assertions about the Intelliflo series having issues with Rain intrusion.

That can't be true, can it?

I can't imagine something that should be more weather proof than an outside pump.

Anybody have any experience with this?

Below is from Pentair VS 3050 manual page 18

    3. Protect against moisture:
    • Protect from splashing pool water.
    • Protect from the weather.
    • Protect from lawn sprinklers.
    • If a motor has become wet - let it dry before operating. Do not allow the pump to operate if it has been
    flooded.
    • If a motor has been damaged by water it voids the motor warranty.

This is solely because the electrical connections are not water proof. They should be weather tight but that doesn't make it like a Timex G-Shock divers watch. Any other pump will have that warning also.

If you used electrical connections designed to be submerged, the pump would run fine fully submerged. This actually happened during development when the Santa Ana winds blew it in on a Friday and they found it on Monday, still running.

So basically if it is protected against shorts from water intrusion, it's OK?

    Re: Intelliflo Weather Resistance??

The IntelliFlo has a sealed enclosure, which most pumps do not have. So it is safer outside than most pumps (which none the less do alright). As PoolGuyNJ said, that doesn't mean it is perfectly water proof, but it is quite water resistant and safer from things like sprinklers splashing the pump than most other pumps would be.
