Test Kit Question

Most people here will recommend the FAS-DPD test kit. There is an article comparing two popular kits in the Pool School - click the Pool School link at the top right of the page and scroll down to the "Test Kits Compared" article under the Pool Chemistry heading.

As far a closing temperature for the pool -- 60 degrees seems to be recommended often (both for closing and opening).

User friendly and accurate don't really match up. Test strips are the most friendly, and by far the least accurate. Accuracy is much more important, go with FAS-DPD, which is the most accurate/precise.

I like to wait till the water is 50 degrees or colder before closing. 60 or below is normally fine, but waiting a little longer improves your odds of having an algae free spring.
