I'm looking at replacing the pump with a variable speed variety and am looking at the Jandy ePump JEP 1.5 model. The literature says there are three control options, Auqalink RS OneTouch, Aqualink RS PDA and the ePump Controller. Are one of these controllers required or are they just additional remote control gizmos?

One of the three controllers is required for the ePump to work. There is a separate remote control, which is optional. The pump doesn't have any user interface or controls on it at all. Without a controller attached it will light one LED when it gets power and otherwise just sit there.
