Pits in steps

Hi,
Have in ground pool and noticed pits starting to form on the steps. One step is getting quite bad. Noticed rusty residue coming out. Pool is a little more than 6 years old. Been advised to have replastering done. Was wondering if there are any ramnifications to waiting until next year? Could something serious happen if I don't get this done immediately. Located in spring tx. Thanks!

Other than more pitting, etc. it's not really going to hurt to wait till next year.

It might be some exposed rebar rusting.
I would get a tube of silicone and fill it / seal it.
That should limit the corrosion to the rebar and staining of adjacent plaster.
