So earlier this week my Hayward pump stopped pumping (just made a humming sound then turned off). I ordered a new capacitor and just installed it.
I then turned the pump on and sure enough, it started pumping. But then I realized about 30 seconds later that I had forgotten to prime the pump and smoke started coming out of the motor.
I quickly turned it off and then primed the pump. I turned the pump back on and it pumped for about 15 more seconds then just stopped.
Now I'm back to the humming sound and no suction.
What now? Seems smoke couldn't possibly be a good thing and I'm wondering if I'm just going to need to replace the motor on the pump.
