My 24 X 52 is blue and cloudy

Hi i have saw several topics for this but none that really covered salt water pools. I have a intex saltwater pump dont remember what brand but its relatively new and then the stock pump. well i didn't think to change the filter in the pump and eventually the entire filter system shut down and wouldnt work for days and by the time i figured out it was the filter it had gotten green... well.. i replaced the filter ran the pump continuously etc.. got in it after it was looking slightly clear but green at bottom so it looked as if the green stuck to bottom made it still look bad so i cleaned that off and got out and woke up this morning and now its a VERY beautiful blue. i must say. But its cloudy blue what do i do now? this is a saltwater pool i havent added any chemicals just the right amount of salt what 7 bags i think by now. it was perfectly fine weeks before.

Can you do a full water test?

No chemicals but salt? No stabilizer? Your pool ought to have stabilizer. You will need to get the stabilizer level up to 30 ppm and then do a proper shock on the pool. See Pool School for how to shock a pool.

Once the pool is clear and clean and you pass the tests for concluding the shock process, then you will need to bring the stabilizer level up to a higher level. This will help you keep chlorine in the pool.

As for the cloudiness, that is something that will take time to clear. First you must be certain that all the algae is killed, then the filter needs time to clear the debris out. If you can vacuum to waste, you can turn the filter off to let stuff settle. You may be able to carefully siphon waste out of the pool with a length of hose.

If you water is cloudy, it may or may not be safe. You should read about the OCLT here:http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-...rnight_fc_test, that will determine if you need to do the shocking process, detailed here: http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-...king_your_pool. My guess is you have an algae outbreak and will need to do the shocking process. To effectively shock you pool and to maintain it after, you need a good test kit. Look here: http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-...kit_comparison.
We are here to help, let us know you questions. There is a lot info in the pool school (see link on upper right).

The SLAM process is not finished until: 1. CC < 0.5 ppm, 2. An OCLT < 1.0 ppm and, 3. The water is crystal clear.
