So, I had a huge amount of pollen in the pool.
Gathered on the floor like the sands of a desert and stuccoed the sides like an adobe hut.
It truly was a sigh to behold.

After an hour and a half of painstakingly vacuuming the sides and ever so slowly and delicately
sweeping the bottom as to not disturb the pollen at rest, I once again had a clean, crystalline pool.

The torrent of pollen caused the sand filter pressure to rise some 8 lbs.

Since I had DE in the filter and am abounding in wisdom, I decided I would wait until the next rain storm to get the pool level up then give the filter a nice long backwash.

As we know, a sand filter can catch particles down to 30 microns or so.
Did you know there a large a lot of pollen types that are smaller than 30 microns?
Well, I didn't.

The next day I came out to enjoy my sparkly, polished pool and instead was greeted with the Sahara Desert.
I was more than a little sad.
The filter pressure was right back in the normal operating range.

The pollen looked to be more evenly distributed that before I vacuumed.
I guess that means I've got pretty good circulation.

Oh, that stinks! Its such a pain when you work really carefully and it still all falls apart.

If nothing else it's a good lesson for all of us. When you are done vacuuming, backwash that sand filter. Im going home to do mine right now.

Dust particles are also often smaller than 30 microns. Living in the desert I've got a lot of it! Never seem to be able to keep the bottom of the pool clean!
