Lid Gasket Help

I've been chasing an air leak that puts small bubbles in the pump basket. Checked all pipe connections and quick disconnect for the liquidatior that is attached in the pump drain plug area. I cleaned lid gasket and lubed with teflon. I noticed the air is pulled in when the pump is first started and then disappates after running 15-20 minutes,leaving just a few very small bubbles. Would I be right thinking the lid gasket is leaking a small amount when the pump first applies suction? The pump is 3 seasons old.
Is it just a matter of pulling the old gasket off and pushing a new one into place? Never done this before!
Pump is a Hayward Max-Flo 2,,,,1.5 h.p.

Have you tried the 'running water over the plumbing' trick?

Would I be right thinking the lid gasket is leaking a small amount when the pump first applies suction?

That certainly is the most suspect place. However, I would think those bubbles would clear in less than a minute or so as the lid should be drawn down as tight as it will get almost immediately.

That said, I can't think of a more likely place.

My gasket simply lays in a groove around the frame of the pump basket so exchanging it is simply lifting it out and placing another in. Just clarifying that most of them don't require any real effort to remove or install.

The majority of air clears in a few minutes but a few small bubbles keep creeping in. Nothing to cause any major problems but there none the less. My gasket is in the lid top. I'll do the running water test on the suction connections and order another gasket if the water test doesnt show anything. thanks for the advice!!
