adding borates if mustard algae is present

Borates help prevent algae along with proper sanitation, but does not kill existing algae. You need to take the pool through the shock process at the mustard algae level for your pool. That being said, are you sure it is mustard algae and not dirt or pollen? Mustard algae tends to grow on the shady walls of the pool.
 
I think it is pollen. It sure does cover and clump like algae.
I felt several patches and it is gritty instead of slimy.
What a relief. I never imagined that there would be so much pollen in the air.
There are about 7 large pine trees that hover in the vacinity. I guess they dump pollen at different intervals.
Or maybe it is not coming from pine trees... who knows.

Still, I will perform an OCLT tonight.
