what happened??!

I have a Inground salt water pool. I cleaned the strainer basket on the pump to get rid of the air bubbles (sand filter with polarias booster motor) when i turned the pump back on it made a loud whirring noise and quit. HELP!! what happened?

Sounds like a bearing seized up. Just a coincidence to the cleaning.

would that mean needing a new motor?

Probably. You may be able to have the bearings replaced, but if it's very old I'd just replace the motor.
