The pool store guy that sometimes test my water claims that he stops after the color change on some tests brightens, whereas when I test I stop at the first permanent change of color. What do you think is correct? The difference in my case was a total alk of 80 when I tested and he got 105, not earth shattering, just want to know for my sake. I seem to remember chem lab and it was when the first change took place...

How about when the addition of any more chemicals does not cause any Further color change? Then subtract that lost drop that didn't matter.
