brownish orange discoloration

total cholrine leve 4.5 free cholrine 3.4, ph 6.0 alkalinty 88, hardness 79 registers no for metals. have brownish orange discoloration.. shocked pool and water turns green. brown residue everywhere. can move with a brush but walls and steps are stained. did the vitamin c test and it removes the stain. have added metal out 2 weeks ago, water cleared up, needed to raise cholrine and the water turned green again with staining & reside. What on earth should I do

You should raise your pH to the low 7's ASAP.

Then post back full set of test results.

Have you seen directions for How to Shock Your Pool in Pool School?

What chlorine source did you use for the shock?

What is the source of your water? well, municipal/tap ?

What is the size of your pool?
