Pool light wiring question

Got a question that certainly has a quick answer.

I'm replacing a couple of pool light assemblies and when I opened the J-box in the deck it was packed with a sort of putty.
Makes sense, since it's protecting the connections, but what kind of putty/ packing is it exactly? Plumber's putty? Modeling clay?
After many years it's still pliable.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, Pete

MajorDIYer - Spot on I think, based on a read of your link.

Richard320 - You're right, silicone grease is an excellent sealer. I was a little concerned it might migrate down the conduit. I can worry about anything!

Thank you both for taking a moment to help.

Pete
