Sand needs replacing every year?

So when we purchased our sandpro pump and filter, at the pool store of course , the pool guy told us that when we winterize the pool we should dump the sand in the filter and start with fresh sand next spring.

I did not even question it since sand is so cheap, but now I read that some people don't change out the sand yearly???? Do you need to top off or anything?

Nope. Sand can last many years. It is not routine to change out sand unless you are doing something like a baquacil conversion.
