just above my water line, i have some build up of white scale which i believe is calcium on my pebble tec. on that build up i have black splotches that turn bright green when the chlorine dips a bit. then i typically raise the water line to cover the green then boost the chlorine.

i was told this was black algae at my neighborhood pool store. it was recommended i let the water line drop then attack the build up with a pumice stone to remove the build up and ultimately the black algae.

just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on the best way to remove the build up and also the black algae?

thanks,

It sure sounds like you have algae and calcium scale. Whether it's black algae or not, the conditions that have caused it will return unless you get your chemistry in check.

I would do that first and then clean up the scale.

hi jason,

my water test from yesteray at leslies pool store
free chlorine 4
total chlorine 4
Salt 2600 ( irrelevant because my salt cell is dead, using chlorine tabs)
cyanuric acid 99
total alkalinty 80
pH 7.4
phosphates 200

since the test they had me add 9 oz of phosfree.
