Clarifier is one of several chemicals that you can add to the pool which cause extremely fine particles that won't normally get caught by the filter to clump together into bunches large enough to be caught by the filter.
Clarifier tends to be rather hit or miss. Sometimes it works wonders very quickly, other times it does nothing at all.
