Just wondering do I have too use the sand they sell at pool store or can I use play sand that the hardware store sell

Do not use the play sand under any circumstances. It will have fines that will wind up in your pool, likely a bunch of it. Some hardware stores have filter sand in the seasonal pool sections. Mine does anyway and it isn't a large store. See what the manufacturer suggests and get that. #20 Sand is the most common as far as I know.

It doesn't have to come from a pool store but it HAS to be pool filter sand. The big box stores usually sell it.
