So confused and just need some advice please...

Ok so new member here who found this site after having an algae/pollen issue for the first time in many years with our pool and with some lurking & reading we now we have a clear pool forming - big thanks for that.

Our 5 year old Polaris cleaner shot again last year after spending $250.00 to have it rebuilt the year before so decision was made to just skip the automated cleaner last year as we really only have dirt and small debris that gets into our pool and figured we would save for a nicer cleaner. Now we are ready to purchase one and we have been doing all sorts of research and are really confused in which direction to go for our 20 x 40 inground vinyl liner pool with hayward sand filter system. The Polaris connected to our skimmer line and seemed to do a decent job but was always having some gear or something needing to be replaced so we have started looking at robotic systems but those seem to be way more than we want to spend. Is there really that big of a difference in the self contained pump systems versus the ones that connect to your existing pump system? Would like to stay around $600 or so if possible but would spend more if it was worth it as far as easier care and length of life. From what I have read online though most have issues with their newer robotics as well after a year or so and just makes it seem like not really worth the investment.

The cleaner that seems to get the most mention in your price range is called the "poolvernugen" or something like that. Someone will come on soon and correct my atrocious memory but that cleaner gets good reports and is suction side and will fit your budget.

So is it really not worth it to do the self contained units like the dolphins and sucj then unless you have bad leaves and larger debris in your pool?

    Thanks for the feedback too.

A lot of it has to do with the size of the pool. The Pool Cleaner works very well on a small pool, but struggles with a large pool, while the robotic cleaners do very well in large pools.

Our pool (20 x 40, 26K) probably classifies as a larger pool so doubt the Pool Cleaner would be the right fit maybe? Been looking at the Aquabot Jr but not seeing many reviews on that one though.

The Blue Diamond appears to be the best reviewed of the robotic cleaners. None of them are perfect, and many brands have their supporters.

yea, if you do a robot, do the blue diamond, they can be had for 900 or less and 4 year warranty is the key as you will be using it.

otherwise the cheaper nitro wallclimber or wallscrubber where you can buy and replace the parts yourself after the warranty expires.

the dolphins imho are junk unless they changed them and they can turn on their own now which I don't believe they have, aquabot warranties seems short. there only like 3 companies that actually make robots and then everyone licenses from them.

talking to the people that designed the blue diamond and such, the are smart guys with lots of patents.
