Crack in inline chlorinator

We were losing a lot of water...I figured out this afternoon that it's spewing from a crack in the bottom piping of my inline chlorinator. So...the question of the hour...do I replace the chlorinator, or do I remove it and go strictly with bleach to chlorinate the pool? I suppose I could entertain the thought of a salt water chlorinator, but my husband said he heard that you can't have one of those with a DE filter (which we also have). Ideas?

I have had in my last house and am planning to have in my current house a SWG with a DE filter.

I have never heard that you can not have both ... many people do ... and would be curious to hear the rationale for not.
