I read about adding Diatomaceous Earth to a sand filter to help with getting out the super small particles. Can this work with a cartridge filter as well?
What about adding DE to a cartridge filter??

Adding DE is not such a good idea with a cartridge filter. The DE becomes permanently embedded in the filter fabric, increasing the flow resistance, and if you add too much destroying the cartridge.
Also, cartridge filters already filter way better than sand, so there isn't nearly as much to gain.
