Great to hear that fishing line works!

If you need to get a line up in a tree, just tie a treble hook and a couple sinkers on it and cast it as high as you can, reel it till its stuck real good, then tie the other end off somewhere that you can reach.

If you have a pellet/bb gun, and can view the offending birds from a window in your house, you can make a "screen" for your window out of plastic wrap, put it in the open window so that it seals it up nicely, then you can shoot from inside the house through the plastic wrap and almost no noise will be heard outside the house.....
 
I tried this as well, although it was just before the birds geared up to leave for the summer, were lucky here in that they leave in early June.
Anyways, seemed to make a significant difference. I'm going to try earlier in the season next year.
