TA of 440?

I tested the water in the pool that we had filled on Monday.

All parameters tested fine, but the TA came out to be 440, did I make a mistake? Or is this something I can fix?

You should already know this but did you try wiping the dropper tip occasionally with a damp tissue while doing the test?

Extremely high TA levels can be fixed but it takes work.

ha! I know I should know, I went from a bromine pool that didn't take much work to this. I'll try redoing the test tonight. Last year my TA was 90, so it may have been operator error.

I tested again last night, and still got in the high 400's. I'll run a sample down to the pool store, in case my reagents are bad.

If TA really is 400+, it is time to start the lowering TA process.

Also, if the TA is really that high, then I'd expect your pH to be high unless you've got a pool cover.

Test your fill water from the tap to see what that shows.

The fill water came from a water truck. The pH is perfect and solid for the last few days at 7.5. I do have a cover, but it hasn't been installed yet.

I'm adding some more cya to get me to 60-70.
SWCG is running at level 2 or 3 and maintaining FC of 5. No bather load as I'm still waiting for temp. Currently at 70.
I'm guessing my reagents are bad to get 2 TA readings over 400

It sure seems like it. With a SWG you would see huge PH drift if TA was really that high.
