About 2 weeks ago I noticed my pump, a Hayward 3/4hp, started making a terrible whining noise. 
I assumed it was the bearings going bad so an Ebay search lead me to a auction where I was able to pick up a Hayward Super II 3/4hp pump assembly that someone had used on their pool for 3 day for $168.00. These things sell for about $349.00 so I felt pretty good about the price. Anyway, the pump arrived yesterday and I put in on this morning and it runs great and it's quiet. 
The only thing I have noticed is my sand filter pressure has gone from 12psi to 15psi as the normal operating pressure. I guess the new pump is pushing more water but this doesn't seem to be a real issue.
