Last year my pump bit the dust the week before Memorial Day. Couldn't get a new one until the following Thursday.
Yesterday I was vacuuming the pool to get ready for visitors today, walked in to backwash and when I turned the pump on, nothing but a hum. :grrrr: Pulled the cover off the back and the motor spun easily, so I pulled the cap and checked it out. Bad! I managed to pull a little trick that is far too dangerous to post here lest someone inexperienced in electrocuting themselves should read it, and got the motor running. No backwashing or pump shutoff for me now though.
