filter start up for a newbie

new to board, new to pool ownership.

bought house that had pool and am now opening it. pool was not opened last year.

after starting my pump and filter up i noticed a brief period of greenish water coming back into the pool from the filter. is this normal on a start up? the water is running clean now and it was only a few minutes of green feedback. just struck me as odd.

You may have had some algae growing inside your filter and plumbing.

Yes, although it would probably be helpful to backwash thproughly at least once more. Shock the pool according to the article in Pool School.
