We've been told by a couple of people to invest the money in having a pool company restart our pool after replastering. Why is this? I know there is quite a bit of brushing and vacuuming involved after new plaster/restart. Is it worth the $600 to have someone do this? We handle the chems and maintenance for our pool now and have never had a problem.

With fresh plaster you need to keep a very close eye on the PH level, often adding acid twice a day. You also need to brush the entire pool at least once a day. There will also be plaster dust, which might require lots of cleanup. You also need to keep an eye on the TA and CH levels, which should come up by themselves, but may need a little help along the way. Then there is adding CYA, and of course you need to maintain chlorine levels.
How much money it is worth to have all that done for you is up to you. Keep in mind that they often assume you will be doing part of the work yourself even if you hire them to do it, so get them to be clear about what their service includes.

Yes, though usually the PH rise is not quite as dramatic and you need to add more TA and CH because there is less exposed plaster.
