I've got a 15' x 4' (5300 gal) intex pool and want to get rid of the junk filter that came with the pool. The pool ever stayed clean last year and want to get a sand filter. I've been looking at the Intex sand filters, but I've been seeing some Hayward filter systems for about the same price range, $250. Anyone got any suggestions?

A larger filter is better, and usually costs more, so you need to decide what it is worth to you.

It all depends on what you want to spend. For example, this would be a very nice, fairly high end, system for your pool. For something less expensive, perhaps this one. And there are many things similar to and in-between those two.
Larger filters go longer between cleaning/backwashing and tend to filter better as well.

probably not much more than $250.
The intex filter is 2100 GPH.
The Hayward is 1800 GPH
