Brown stains what to do?

I have recently changed the water of my pool, 31000 litters.

I added ph + to take it to normal levels.
The pool guy gave me some liquid that he said is algiside with copper and he told me to place it in the pool, which i did.

The pool, after a weeks time and all levels were in normal range the pool plastics ( skimmers on the outside, outlet jets, main drain and the plastic around the lamp turned deep brown color.

The ph when i tested again is really low and i place 600gr of ph+ to bring it to level. I also shocked the pool since it is raining.

I tried to clear the brown stain but it wont come off.

Now what? Will it go away? What shall i do?

P.s when i jet water with the hose there are a lot of foam.

I did the vitamine C tests and after a wile the stain cleared in the spot the vitamin c was placed.

Brown stains that clear up with vitamin C are almost always iron stains. If the stain is small you can treat it with vitamin c tablets in a sock or stocking. If there are extensive stains you can do an ascorbic acid treatment.

Ok, so i better get some AA and do what it says at Ascorbic Treatment to rid Pool of metal stains. About 500gr will do the trick since all the plastics in the pool are brown. Will it affect afterwards the quality of the pool water?

But how i got it? Is it due to the algicide with copper the poolman gave me?

Thanks

I cant find any ascorbic acid in any shope here. Only vitamine c but it is very expensive for a 500gr
I have found to import from germany, but i see now the stain is moving to the vinyl liner now.

Any advice? i will have the ascorbic acid in a week or so.

My pool is 31000 liters. Are 500gr ok to use or do i need more?

I wait some advice.

Thanks

If the stain is spreading try lowering the PH. That should stop it from getting worse. You should also look for some sequestrant, which will keep the metal in suspension and prevent it from depositing as a stain. Sequestrant will also sometimes remove very new stains.

Ok, i lowered the ph and wait till my ascorbic acid arrives.

I noticed that when i placed the acid in the skimmer and the filter in circulation mode, the jets cleared on the opening of the jet.

I have no idea what a Sequestrant is and where to find it in my country.

The only specialist shop is here at http://www.rivieraswimmingpools.com.cy/ ... pageid=193
and thats all they have.

Do you think the Staintrine in the riviera shop will do the trick?

Is it ok to swim before the ascorbic acid treatment?

Thanks in advance

As long as the water is clear, the PH is between 7.2 and 8.0 and the chlorine level is reasonable it is safe to swim.

Staintrine is a sequestrant. It appears to be diphosphonic acid based, so it is probably one of the better sequestrants.

Ok, i have the sequestrant now, but not yet the ascorbic acid.

The free chlorine is still around 3ppm since it was last shocked, before i knew all these steps to do, so i need to wait till chlorine reads zero.

I have 2 procedure questions and a water test equipment advice.

1.Shall i WAIT so i can do a ascorbic acid and then add the sequestrant?
OR
2.Shall i add NOW the sequestrant, without doing an ascorbic acid treatment?

3. Which water test equipment do you advice me to buy?

P.S When i spoke with a salesman and pool technician and told them my story and your advice on doing a vitamin test, they told me that maybe my pool water is poisoned and needed change. They also told me that the pool needs chemicals, not vitamines.

To go a little backwards and inform you that i use for now the standard drops test for ph and tast strips for Free/combined chlorine, Alkalinity, CYA and hardness and i somehow managed for a year to have a healthy pool. But now i have a 6 month baby and i need a really clean pool for this summer. This was the reason for me to do a water changed since the CYA was reading really high. The pool constructed 3 or 4 years before, i bought the house and moved in last year and most probably the water never changed.
My understanding now is that i only have this forum to rely on my cleanliness of my pool.

Thanks in advance.

You can add sequestrant now and it will probably help a little, but you will need to add just as much when you do that AA treatment as you would otherwise. So if you are planning it do the AA treatment it is more economical to wait.

I'm not sure where you are located? In the US the best test kit is from TFTestKits.net, but they don't ship everywhere. There are other choices in other regions, which again don't ship everywhere.

I am still waiting for my AA to arrive ( 2 weeks now ) and i have done no other treatment to my pool other than keeping my Free Chlorine levels to 1 to 2 ppm and the ph to 7.2 but i have notice that the brownish stains are 90% gone.

This is all good for me, but whats the reason for this stain cure?

Sometimes with fresh staining that happens when you shock, lowering the PH is enough to release the stains. Longterm the PH of 7.2 is too low. I still recommend you add the squesterant and then maintain your ph at the normal levels. If you have to shock again the stains will likely return.

ok, the stains are all gone. The Ascorbic acid arrived today.

Since the chlorine was today at zero levels, the ph was dropped from 7.6 to 7.2 so i did an AA treatment.
After an hour or so, i add the squesterant.

I now left my pump running, but for how long since i see no visual change since the stains were already gone !
When shall i place my pump back to the timer mode? Also when shall i bring my chlorine levels to normal?

Thanks
