Well, Howard just found some with free shipping from Ace Hardware. It is being shipped to the store for him to pick up.

    You're done SLAMing when:
    1)You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & 2)You have .5ppm CC's or less, & 3)your water is clear.

    Re: Calcium Chloride..

Depending on your location, you may or may not find it locally. Be sure to call before you drive!

    From Pool School:
Calcium hardness can be raised with calcium chloride or calcium chloride dihydrate. They are available in some areas as Peladow, Dowflake, Tetra Flake, or Tetra 94, often sold as a deicer by hardware stores, and some big box stores, in colder climates. Pool stores will carry either calcium chloride or calcium chloride dihydrate under a variety of names, including Hardness Plus, Balance Pak 300, Calcium Hardness Increaser, etc. Calcium products should be spread across the surface of the deep end of the pool

    Re: Calcium Chloride..

[EDIT] See the post after this one. The Home Depot product to get is really pool time Calcium Hardness Increaser.

I'm moving a discussion I had about DampRid to a separate thread on that product which may have too much iron in it for use in pools.[END-EDIT]

It's called Pool Time Calcium Hardness Increaser. Like Butterfly said you may want to check to see if your local store has it before driving.

    Re: Calcium Chloride..

Can I use RoadRunner Ice Melt as a way to add in Calcium Chloride?

Here is a product page here http://www.icesalt.com/product-revie...nner-ice-melt/

It is advertised: "is a combination of powerful compounds that include salt, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, and calcium chloride."

Would the other ingredients be by-products that I would not want? (I do have salt water).

BTW, I can get this product for $3 for a 10lb bag right now.

    Re: Calcium Chloride..

I wouldn't use Ice Melt. It isn't pure calcium chlorine, so you will need more, and it contains magnesium, which could get to levels high enough to cause stains.

    Thanks for the reply...
I'll do some searching to find the other products that contain Calcium Chloride.

I've done that before, it takes a LONG time to get an increase of 50 ppm or so. On the other hand, if you need CH and also need to shock, cal-hypo would do the trick quite nicely.

And to me now! Our local stores have plenty of 100% calcium chloride de-icer but zero pool calcium. Now I know I can use the good de-icer.
