Not if you add it properly. Once the bleach is mixed into the water everything is fine. The only risk is if you spill full strength bleach directly on the liner. We recommend pouring bleach slowly in front of the return jet while the pump is running. That will get it to mix in quickly and there won't be any risk.
I'm gonna bet you were told that by a pool store. They sure tried to pull that "Fear Factor" on me.
