    Pool company water test

The pool company by me offers free water testing. How accurate is that versus like a Taylor test kit?

It varies. It depends on a few things like what kind of testing they use. For example, my pool store used the BioGard Alex system that uses a strip dipped in the water, but then a computer to read the strip. Test strips, even when used in the store are often inaccurate (mine varied widely). Some stores actually use the drop tests similar to the ones found in the Taylor K-2006 or TF100, but even if they do use those, it's going to depend somewhat on the person doing the test and their experience.

What you're likely to find is that getting a good test kit of your own (K-2006 or TF100) and learning to use it, you will KNOW you have accurate results everytime and be able to do the tests on your schedule.

Even if they use a good test kit, remember that they are in business to sell you chemicals. Will they take the time to swirl the CH test long enough, or will they declare it low and direct you to the bucket o'calcium?

It won't take much reading here to stumble across posts wherein someone left the pool store $200 lighter and the pool remained unchanged. And then they hit the internet and found this place.
16K freeform gunite with spa; Pentair 4000 DE filter; Century Whisperflow 1 HP; Pentair Minimax heater.
Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!
