strainger clogged up for hours, can I expect pump damage?

I shouldn't have done it, but I left the pump on overnight after recently uncovering a swamp after removing the cover this year.

I thought I had got it to a point where all solid debris was gone but wind must have somehow brought some leaves over (and we don't have any trees near the pool).

Anyway, woke up this morning and went to look at the water, and the strainer is completely clogged. No water coming out of the return. Pump sounded normal though.

Can I expect any immediate or 'in the future' damage to the pump?

Immediate damage is possible, but if everything is fine now you won't have any problems later because of this incident. The danger is from overheating. It doesn't take all that much water movement to keep the pump from overheating, so your chances are good, but if it got completely clogged there could be damage.
