Removing Metal Stains While Empty

Halfway through draining my pool because my new liner is going in on Monday. I'd like to take care of some metal staining on the steps whille I'm in the process of draining.

Any suggestions for how to do an AA treatment when not under water. I'm thinking of trying the AA in a sock with water running over the steps from the hose. Anyone have any experience with this?

That can work well enough, though it can get tedious if the area you need to treat is too large or the stains have too much metal in them.

Mix some ascorbic acid in a bucket of water and use a nylon bristle scrub brush to scrub away the stains.
