Hayward pump running sheer descent - no flow

But it is running.

Is there a link on this fine site to troubleshoot a pump that runs but isn't moving water? It was running a month ago as I recall (only have it on 5 minutes per day to keep circuit fresh).

Is the pump basket full of water?
does the pump sound normal?
Is the shaft easy to turn?
does it shoot water out if you open the filter air valve?

That'll get us started.

I took cover off pump basket - It was half full of water. I filled it and turned on pump and water was sucked into pump and sheer descent followed momentarily.

When cover replaced with basket full, same thing, then stops.

No water from spigot on top of pump.

Took one way valve apart upstream from pump. Blue flapper has spring and moves easily.

Ignorant as to what supplied water to this pipe (what vavle may not be turing to let water to this pipe?
