I have an above the ground 18' oval pool. I am looking to use a solar cover. I have seen on this site home made stands for the reels. I want my wife to be able to crank the cover off and on by herself seeing I am not always here. I am thinking about buying a reel and placing it at the end of the pool. Should I buy one that is larger then 18' and cut to fit or buy the 18' one. I believe I am not the only one with this issue?

Yes, well kindof, I do not have the ability to weld, however was looking to purchase a reel and free stad it. I do not like the idea of splitting the pool in 1/2 and swinging the cover out of the way.

It's not a problem with placing the reel at one end of the pool. You have a little tendency for the cover to droop at the sides coming off the pool when rolling it up but it will reel up ok.
