Bubbles in pool and squirting through O ring

I am getting small bubbles through the inlets. Noticed when I shut off the pump, water squirted out between the top of the basket strainer and the strainer body. I took off the top, cleaned both surfaces real well, put in a new, well lubed O ring and the same thing happens - bubbles and squirt through the area the O ring seals the top to the body. Could the plastic top of the basket strainer be warped ? It had been really wrenched down with pliers. Any thoughts ? Thanks !

I bet it's warped since you've replaced and lubed the o-ring.

It can, especially if someone has tightened it too much and left it for a while.

A lot of older pumps squirt out when you shut them down. Whats the make/model of the pump.

It is a 2 HP Century Centurion B130. Don't recall seeing the "squirting" at shut off before but that doesn't mean that it wasn't.
