Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

In The Swim at http://www.intheswim.com has these Intex Hose to 1 1/2" Thread PVC connectors. They come two in a package so the $12.99 isn't as bad has it looks. Part Number A2656.

http://www.intheswim.com/Pool-Equipment ... cessories/

They're made by GAME and come with Rubber Washers and PVC Thread Tape for the 1 1/2" end.

They actual work really well and don't leak.

It's about time... maybe Intex's patents on the hoses and nuts ran out. Based upon how much I've spent on plunge valves over the last 5 years, $6.50 each is a literal bargain.

Something like this was advertised and sold about 3 years ago that looked almost exactly like these - I bought a couple, and ended up having to return them as they didn't work on the Intex hose nuts.

well i finally hard plumbed the pool and sand filter using the E950HG adapters from home depot. it worked out great! minor modification, NO LEAKS! heres the pics.........19607.jpg[/attachment:5vsxxns0]49653.jpg[/attachment:5vsxxns0]63701.jpg[/attachment:5vsxxns0]

 well, i'm going to have to redo the amount of holes and diameter of the holes in the fountain as the water is coming out in big heavy streams. i wanted more like a sprinkler stream. i used a 1/4'' bit but i'm thinking about going to 1/8''.

let us know your findings with your experiments on the fountain. i need to make one of these myself ;)

1/4'' is to big. mark(crookm11) did 1/8'' on his and its perfect! thats what i'm looking for. also he drilled 5 holes on either side of the T fitting. i had drilled 6 per side. going to try it again!

Looks like the E950HG is an electrical conduit fitting. The manufacturer is Carlon. Plugging in the E950HG part number on the Home Depot website gives you a picture of a different fitting, without the lip. Looking at the manufacturer's product sheet, they have a large number of similar fittings. You'll need to dig around to find the exact one.

This looks like the simplest solution by a long shot. Thanks!

Robert

my HD also had alot of different fittings. i had to look thru alot of them but i found them! :)

So 10 1/8th inch holes is enough not to choke the pump? I want to make a fountain, but want to make sure I don't damage the pump trying to use it. How do you know if the pump is not building up too much pressure or working too hard to push the water out the holes? I guess I could install a pressure meter somewhere. i guess that could be a simple as screwing in a pressure meter where the air bleed screw is on the top of the filter cover? Or leave the bleed screw alone and put a pressure meter elsewhere on the cover?

Hello,

If you just have 10 x 1/8 holes in the fountain alone, the presure will go way up. My fountain uses 10 x 1/8 holes and a full size normant return also. Please read my topic on this here.

mark, i'm going to tie in the fountain with the return having both of them able to output at the same time using my old suction port.

Thank you everyone for the great idea and suggestions for making custom PVC Pipe Adapters. However, while searching for the suggested Carlon E950HG electrical conduit fittings in my local Big Box stores (HD and Menards), I have discovered that it appears to have been discontinued\modified by the manufacturer. I could only find the new modified replacement part which is the same part number, however, with a modified design which will no longer work. So, I went to my local electrical supply store and found these gems which work perfectly with no modifications required for my setup. Just some light sanding to remove the raised wording. I am using 1-1/2" hard pvc pipe throughout my entire system so this was a perfect solution for me. These fittings are called 1-1/2" Box Adapters in the electrical world and both Carlon E996H (on the left) and Cantex 5133719 (on the right) make them. On the attached pictures - Carlon is on the left and Cantex is on the right. Both work with either Intex type connector (type in picture and the one-piece construction type)

hey, that is a great find. that will be the best option known as of now. that will be less modification for sure. i will probably go out and get some as i plan on moving up to the 18x52 myself next year if i can find them! :goodjob:

update...... lowes has these cantex 1 1/2'' box adapters. thanks again for your update. this is good news for anyone looking to upgrade the intex sand filter and pool! i'm going to get about a dozen of them for next year myself! :-D :goodjob:

First, thanks for all of the truly usful information from everyone in these thread!

I do have a question about what you are using to seal the joint at the pump. The box adapters are a loose fit over the pump fittings (Intex 2,500 gph cartridge pump). It looks like I will have to cut a rubber gasket to get it to work. The connection at the SWG is fine as it has the fitting with the integrated O ring at the end of the union rather than around it.

Thanks again!
