resurfacing - what are the chances of pool "popping".....

....when the pool is at the lowest point of your property and you have heavy clay soil? We've been delaying resurfacing our old rectangular IGP for budget reasons, but now that we're seeing signs of leakage we know we have to resurface this year. Is it better to wait until the ground has dried out a bit and there's less likelihood of rain, or could we have it done sooner without major risk of popping? Pool is concrete that a prior owner had resurfaced with fiberglass 10+ years ago but the fiberglass has been chipped in several places, and we've already confirmed with a couple pool builders that the fiberglass could be removed and the pool replastered.

Any competent plaster company will know the surrounding water table concerns, if any, and will be able to safely handle the job. If a high water table is present in your area, they will provide relief holes as they drain to offset the ground water by allowing water to come up into the pool shell during draining and re-plastering. If you are in a known high water table area, there is a good chance that you already have a hydrostatic valve in place, and that will be used during the re-plastering. If you do not have a hydrostatic valve and have ground water issues, then now would be a great time to have one installed!

Many pools in my area use threaded plugs that are removed from the hydrostatic relief ports in the pool bottom.
