pool opening w a sand filter

I read elsewhere on TFP re pool opening: “If using a sand filter, carefully add water to filter prior to attaching multi-port gasket”.

To winterize, I don’t remove anything from my sand filter except the water & the drain plug.
At the spring opening, am I supposed to unscrew the top somewhere & add water slowly rather than just re-attach the drain plug & then turn the pump on?

Attached is my filter manual, Pentair Sand Dollar 80.
Pg 5 & 6 mention “Initial Startup” & states to start in Backwash mode (but they reason they give is to remove impurities from NEW sand) then it says to put in Rinse moode, then Filter mode.

Next spring when I open, what mode do I start in & do I have to add water to the top first? (it was new last season & the pro who installed it did it all the 1st time)

No, you dont have to add water. Just put the multiport on filter and you are good to go.
