Whats the difference between chlorine and non-chlorine shock

I see closing kits that are mostly non-chlorine shock. What is recommended here?

Non-Chlorine shock is potassium peroxymonosulfate (MPS) and is usually used with hot tubs and not in pools. We recommend plain old chlorine.
