Chlorine Level and Strting the SWG

I just received my new cell for the SWG . I had to shock the pool last week to get rid of some algae. NOver the last 3 days or so, the CL seems to have remained at a level between 8-10 ppm. This afternoon I installed the new SWG Cell, but should I turn it on while the Chorine is still this high? Is it normal for it to stay this high? We've had clear days and the pool gets several hours of sunlight. I'm a newbie so I really don't know what to expect.

I would wait till it drops to recommended level of 3-5 ppm then turn it on. Is your pool covered or shaded? Might explain the slow rate of CL decay.

What is you CYA level? This plays an important part too.
