Why is my chlorine drop test so inconsistent when my chlorine levels are super high (42.5)? I test and get 1.5; knowing this can not be correct I test again and the water sample will actually trun dark pink and I get 31. Is there a problem with the test kit or is the problem that my cholorine so high? I am super cholorinating to get rid of algae introduced my frogs jumping into the pool. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using 2 heaping scoops of R-0870 powder? With chlorine that high you need to scoops to bind it all.
Why are you keeping your FC that high?
What's your CYA level?
If you're not able to test it how do you know that the FC is 42.5?

What are the rest of your test results?
pH (but don't bother testing it with FC this high)
FC

TA
CH
CYA

By the way, you didn't get an algae outbreak because of frogs jumping in your pool. You got it because your FC wasn't maintained at the proper level for your CYA.
