broke push/pull backwash valve

I have a TritonII filter with a push/pull backwash valve; the valve broke just above the bottom of the stem. Can I get the broken piece out without having to take the whole thing apart?
Any/all suggestions welcome

How about a spring fingered mechanics grabber? or a chinese handcuff (wire pulling sleeve) slipped down over the remaining stem? Those can be bought at an auto parts store or Harbor Freight or one fo the big box stores or an electrical supply house for the pulling sleeve.

I have the same issue. How did you get it out? Do you even see the part?
