I was curious if anyone on here that lives in the south where u really dont need a heater in the summer has one or has used one to heat up water in spring and extend swimming season in the fall and if so how did/does it work?

We used our heat pump in the winter and heated the pool up to 96 degrees. You have to have a solar cover though because you will loose all of the heat at night.

The University of Central Florida "owns" a solar energy research center. They have a good amount of information that also includes sizing for the location and desired length of swim season. Worth a look IMHO.
