Connecting Fountain

I bought a simple PVC fountain/aerator to try and keep the pool a little cooler but am having trouble installing it. The fountain has a male, threaded 1 1/2" end. I unscrewed one of the return eyeballs but it seems to be 1 5/8" or maybe metric (also male threaded). Since it's not a standard PVC size I haven't been able to find any kind of adapter/connector that will let me connect the fountain to the return.

Any ideas?

You may have only gotten half the fitting. Are there two notches on the front face of the threaded portion still in the pool wall? If so, this unscrews, leaving a female threaded portion that is slightly smaller than the outer thread.

Ah, I just saw the "male threaded" statement. You most certainly have only removed half of the fitting, as John said.

Yup...that was the problem. Got the fountain hooked up last night so, hopefully it will keep the water temp a couple degrees cooler.
