Which pump?

I have a 12,500 gallon above ground pool.

What would be the better buy/fit?

a 1 hp Hayward pump for $139 and free shipping:

or a 3/4 hp Advantage pump for $145?

I'd prefer a 3/4 hp motor due to lower electric costs. The Hayward draws 13.8 amps, and I'm not sure of the Advantage pump.
The Hayward is obviously better known.

Not sure how much they go for but the 2spd 1hp Pentair Dynamo would also be a good one. Run on low unless vacuuming or back-washing to save the most electricity.

I like the looks of the 3/4hp. The TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) motor sold me right off. However if either were a 2-speed I'd opt for that instead.

So a totally enclosed fan cooled motor is something that stands out compared to the Hayward?

That comes from many years in industry. Any motor that's totally enclosed is better than a dripproof open frame.

Sorry to sound like I know nothing about pumps (I don't), so how does that compare to the Hayward one? Is the Hayward not TEFC?

I'm with what he said

I learned from experience also, brought a pump on ebay that looked very similar to TEFC you have listed.

It lasted exactly one season before the wet end failed.

Lesson learned, buy something you can get parts for and is made here on our shores.
