strange results while I shock a crystal sparkling green pool

Yeah, the pic is what it looks like tonight in the shade. When I started this post it was after shocking the pool and it was much lighter green/blue. I had to wait until I received the test kit to start shocking again. Now that I have the test kit I hope it gets better. I'm about to test the water again in 30mins and I'll post my results. It's almost 1am here right now so I'll be back at it at 7am before I have to leave until wednesday night. The pool is really sucking up the chlorine.

Been there, done that w/ the emerald green water! You probably have some kind of algae bloom going on... that's what it was for me... keep shocking and testing... you must keep it up to the recommended FC shock level continuously until FC begins to hold... that's the only way. Maybe you can do it continuously over a weekend, testing and adding chlorine several times per day as needed. Good luck! It will clear, and your water will be awesome!

BTW, since I found out about the BBB method, I've had no algae going on 5 years!!! You can do it.

June 21 - water looks like picture in previous posted link
10:30pm - added 10 182oz jugs 6% bleach (approx 35ppm)
11:15pm - FC : 9ppm
11:30pm - added 6 182oz jugs 6% bleach (approx 21ppm)

--sleep--
7:00am - FC : 24ppm, CC : 1ppm
water looks like a beautiful electric blue and a little cloudy - this is a BIG change from before I had the TF100.

7:00pm - FC : 21ppm, CC : 2ppm

I'll check levels again at 9pm, I had people come over and check levels and stuff today. I ended up driving the four hours to come back tonight instead of staying at the hotel.
It just rained but the pool still looks electric blue.

Thanks everyone. I'm so scared that it will turn green now that it's blue for the first time, haha!!
I'll post more levels in the morning.

Thanks loughps!!

Update :
June 22
9:00pm - FC : 22ppm, CC : 2ppm

10:00pm - Noticed waterfall wasn't flowing too well, checked the DE psi and it was >9psi from clean start.
Backwashed and added 6lbs of DE. The Waterfall is flowing strong now.

11:00pm - FC : 17.5ppm, CC : 1.5ppm

I'm gonna test at 12am, then check next around 7am.

With your FC loss and CC, it's going to take some time to finally get it completely under control. Just know that you're doing what you need to do and there IS light at the end of the tunnel and LOTS of us have been in your shoes. Keep up the good work and the posts. Don't forget to brush and vacuum as well (and find ANYWHERE algae can hide, my light fixture was NASTY!!)

Like I said, you're doing a great job.

If those two tests are only an hour apart, that is not long enough to count as an overnite FC loss test. Try to get a span of at least 8-10 hours of nighttime to make that test more meaningful.

Anyway, it still doesn't appear you are losing much chlorine at night....implying little if any organics left.

As we discussed, you are going to test for metals in your water today to see if that will help identify the greenish cast that you had before it turned electric blue. I think the cloudiness in the deep end will filter out over the next day or so and I think your water will continue to get more normally blue.

You can probably guesstimate the volume of the pool by (a) measuring the FC (b) adding a carefully measured amount of chlorine and letting it circulate and (c) measure the rise in FC.
Do this in the evening when there's no UV, use a 25 mL sample for 0.2 ppm precision (or 50 for 0.1).
Multiply the quantity you've added (in grams) by the available chlorine content of whatever product you've added then divide by the rise in FC.
Multiply that number by 1,000 and that's your approx pool volume.

For example I've added 120 grams of 65% cal hypo to a pool and it increased the FC by 6 ppm:
120 * 0.65 = 78
78 ÷ 6 ppm = 13
13 * 1,000 = 13,000
That pool volume is approx 13,000 liters.

(It's a bit more complicated with liquid chlorine because you get into liquid densities and percentages of this and that, it may be simpler just to "borrow" a cup of cal hypo from a neighbour).

12:15am - FC : 18ppm, CC : 1ppm
5:30am - FC : 17ppm, CC : 1.5ppm (sunrise, pool much clearer since yesterday, still blue)
8:20am - FC : 14ppm, CC : 2ppm (pool covered in sun and close to 90F)
8:30am - added 3 182oz jugs 6% bleach (approx 10ppm), no one will be around all day until about 4-5pm

OK, I got some levels checked at the pool store.

Iron : 0
Copper : 0
Phosphates : 1000-2500 (probably around 2000 the guy said)
I could have bought 8 of the bottles for 31 a piece from him. But I followed all of your advice and came back to figure out what phosphates are and what this means and how to get rid of them.

Thanks for everyone following this post!

Ok great! Pool has been stable at 18ppm for most of the day. The reading this morning at 830 could have been off because I don't think the person who did it went a foot below water level for the sample. I just backwashed again. The pool is getting pretty clear now and is a lovely blue!

When is it safe to swim? Can you swim in 18ppm? The pool looks beautiful. Here is the updated log.

Thought I was close, but then the drop today. Pool is still beautiful. I'll stay at it keeping it above shock level (above 16ppm).

Ok, so here is an update. A couple of notes and questions first then please check my pool log for the past two weeks.
1. Sunrise and sunset are now 530am and 830pm so it's hard to get an accurate FC overnight. I'll get up before 530 in the next day or two and check it. And it's been HOT, month of June made history!!
2. I noticed that when doing the FC test sometimes the water is cloudy after putting all the drops in. It looks cloudyclear but I wasn't sure if this is what you all consider clear or if you put another drop in. It seems I always have a light pink when I add the 5 drops of the reagent to measure CC. Last night was the first time I didn't.
3. Does this normally last this long?
4. I am running out of places to brush and look for algae or organics. How can anything still be living after this long of a chlorine shock?
5. Here is a pic of a couple days ago, it still looks basically the same.

It sounds like you might have gotten it, though it is difficult to be sure. Your overnight FC loss is minimal, and could be due to not testing early enough in the morning. Plus there are several nights when you didn't get a final reading after the last chlorine addition.

Your water is clouding up from calcium because the TA and CH levels are very high, and that can affect reading the test results both because the white clouding can make it difficult to see the pink and because the white clouding can make it difficult to decide what is really clear. You need to watch for the pink tint during the test, cloudy white during the test will be because of calcium clouding, not chlorine.

I suggest that you bring your PH down to around 7.2 and let the FC level come down and then do the FC/CC test very carefully and see if the CC level comes back or stays gone.
