I've installed a new gasket in the pac-vac multivalve. the 1st time i backwashed the pool i noticed garbage coming back into the pool through the return line after about 3 minutes of backwash. otherwise the valve seems to be functioning ok. any ideas?

Did you lube the gasket after gluing it down before you put the valve back together? Sometimes if you don't lube it it'll roll out of the groove and leak through.
I could be that a piece of trash got between the gasket and sealing surface causing it to leak through a little.
Vaseline is not recommended. Since it's a petroleum based product it attacks the rubber compound and will damage it. Silicon pool lube is the best thing to use.
