Just a question, Has anyone tried to have the white stuff tested to see what its made of? That could go a long way in discovering how and why it shows up.

Re: White Stuff Info. Liquidator users please reply.

I started using Liquidator last year with total success, and no WS. This year I upgraded to 3/8" line and had WS from the first fill of chlorine. i was devastated. Besides the 3/8* line, what was different? Just before the fill, I cleaned the LQ inside with vinegar, something I use to get rid of calcium build up. (The sides were "crusty" and I thought it was a calcium buildup) Vinegar worked fine and I rinsed well. But the fill of chlorine (12.5%) immediately created a ton of WS at the bottom and I had floating "flakes" throughout the water

I let the chlorine in LQ get used up; I siphoned out all the WS at the bottom, and refilled with chlorine from a new jug. And.... no problem with WS

Can some chlorine batches contain a "pollutant"? Was the WS a result of the residue of vinegar even though I rinsed the LQ well, I thought.

The plastic tubes seem free of WS except AFTER the flow meter where I notice some whiteness. I notice also that the tube leading from the flow meter is half air, half water. This is strange and would indicate some air coming into flow meter from outside, but I have no leaks

All this is submitted in answer to number 12 question: anything else pertinent

Good luck with your investigation. (Wasnt there a long chain of info on WS from last year?)

    1. How long have you been using the LQ? 3 years
    2. List your equipment.

Pump?Hayward Powerflo Matrix Dual Speed 1 1/2 hp pump
Filter?, Hayward 24T sand filter w/zeolite
    Norm filter press?10-15
    Number of skimmers? 1
    Number of returns? 2
    3. Do you have White Stuff? No
    4. If so does it affect the performance of your LQ?
    5. How often do you have to clean it out? Once in 2 years, though not really needed
    6. What parts of the unit are affected by the WS? None

    7. Have you done the 3/8” tubing upgrade? Yes, recently, all parts

    8. How many cc/min (number on flow meter) do you normally run? 2-4, varies
    9. What size LQ do you have? 8 gal
    10. Do you have a device that aerates the water on a regular basis? (fountain, water fall, etc.) No
    11. A full set of test results?

    pH 7.5
    FC 3
    CC 0
    TA 80
    CH 50
    CYA 30
    Salt 0
    Borates 50

I didn't have the borates the first year, but no problem with WS ever. Pool is filled with softened water (household water softener). I do have white flakes that are part of the normal sediment that forms at the bottom of the tank and can be stirred up when adding CL, but I don't consider this the dreaded WS, because I have never had any form on any of the important parts. The original tubing turned opague/white, but no deposits forming, just lost it's clarity. AFter 3 years, my parts are all still clean, though I just replaced some parts for other reasons.

Just wondering. There is question for number of skimmers but no inquiry as to number of returns. Any reason?

Good question. My thought was that turbulence or some other action of mulltiple skimmers might tend to cause the WS.
